I thoroughly recommend Hields Aviation having recently completed my PPL. An amazing experience from start to finish. There are 3 reasons why I chose to train with Hields. Firstly, their fleet is newer than other flying schools. Secondly, you're learning at an international airport, which sets the bar high and is pretty cool. Lastly, they offer a personal service and value your custom. A big thank you to Matthew and the team!

Never answer phone, tried re-booking - a fully paid voucher. When they did eventually pick up the phone, we got a rude response and were advised they are no longer doing pleasure flying!! No money back!We called Cardiff heliport who were very helpful, they put us in touch with another company based at their facility.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would have. I have never experienced such poor service in all my life. We have had flights cancelled for 3 years, usually the night before, even when the weather forecast is perfect. They don't care about those who have been cancelled, and do not prioritise them. You are added to the back of the queue each time, with no apology.You're better off taking your money and throwing it into the wind. They refuse to refund your payment until your flight has been cancelled 4 times.I don't think I've ever heard of anyone in the last 3 years actually getting onto a helicopter.Save your time - this is a scam.

I would like to applaud the terrific service from Penzance Heliports.From the minute we arrived with our two small beddy whippet dogs we were greeted with a smile. They explained what would happen with them on the helicopter, immediately calming the wife’s nerves (result).You have to expect a little disruption on this type of service, weather is a major factor. So my advice watch the conditions and keep in touch. We needed to come home a day early due to a storm, we cancelled, rebooked with no fuss and no extra cost.So ignore some of the misery guts reviews, it ain’t all bad.

I never like travelling through Bristows. Always treated like mindless sheep. Everything about bristows is impersonal. They say it is for safety, but it is well over the top!

Noise from the helicopters gets pretty intrusive when they run their 20 minute trips one after the other over the weekend

I undertook the Helicentre IR(H) at their Oxford Airport base Feb – Apr 23. The flying and simulator instructors, as well as the CAA examiners, were generally very good. All were extremely experienced and very helpful throughout. They do film and record you via security cameras whilst on site, which I found very odd. It certainly gave the impression that the company did not trust you, or even their own staff. Facilities on site are fine, the simulator being particularly good. I managed to complete the AW109 type rating and IR courses in 3 months due to considerable good fortune. Others I know had far less luck. The course really suffered from aircraft availability, averaging out at 44% over the 3 months. Their sole AW109 was unavailable for part of the course, which resulted in them having to hire aircraft from other parties. This meant that aircraft could not be guaranteed over the duration of the course, being reliant on the goodwill of other AW109 owners through a company called Volare. I’m certainly thankful for the company for hosting an interview with the Bristow Group on site, as well as providing a decent discount on the price of the course. That said, there are other companies who offer the IR(H) course in the UK (such as Castle Air, Babcock and Starspeed), who would be well worth considering. For the substantial quantity of money paid, the customer service and aircraft availability should have been better. Unfortunately, not the greatest and most joyful of experiences.
